With a lot of intermediaries being involved, the essence of affiliate marketing will be lost and would directly affect the sales.
Affiliate marketing networks and agencies have extended their services to publishers and all web experts who are familiar with the concepts of online trade and commerce. Merchants also have started to make programs that are flexible and can be taken up by different agencies and professionals. The focus of such programs is to enable anyone anywhere be engaged in selling and promoting on the behalf of the provider.
I have even found affiliate redeveloping the programs and earning regular commissions from the efforts and resources of the affiliate who join these programs. Whenever we go for a program and start advertising the products of the merchant we seldom ask as who is the manufacturer or the producer. The publisher who advertises and sells may be doing a tough job selling the products and his merchant may be an affiliate like him, doing nothing and getting paid.
In affiliate marketing industry, it is the networks or the agencies that play as the intermediaries. The networks get commissions, but then they provide a number of essential services that makes the job much easier. It is not a good idea to encourage any intermediary, other than the networks and agencies.
The reason why affiliate marketing has worked out for some publishers is because it eliminates the intermediaries. It is because of the manufacturer reaching directly to the customer that the cost reduction happens. Intermediaries like wholesale distributors increases the price and the final price has to be paid by the consumers. By selling them at lower prices on the Internet, the customers are encouraged and intermediaries discouraged. If there are too many intermediaries like super affiliates, affiliates and then sub affiliates, the incentives would be all lost by the consumers and that could affect the sales.
